A Brush With History.

From the earliest years, Ralph has been drawing images from history - at first cowboys and Native Americans, then mountain men, airplanes, and hot cars. His other passion started with skiing at age 6 in the shadow of Sun Valley's Bald Mountain. Dreams evolved into the reality of combining a lifestyle in the high mountains, deep powder, wildlife, the cowboys, and Native Americans of Idaho. His interests are diverse, which forces the research and technical elements of applying the brush with the desire to bring forth images that will stand the test of time.

Wings To Space

The Air Force Museum is the largest air museum in the world of airplanes, missiles, and aviation exhibitions, since the Wright Brothers to the present.

The Air Force Museum lies in the northwestern portion of the old Wright Field within three miles of Huffman Prairie where the Wright Brothers developed the art of controlled flight in 1904 and 1905.

A Local Connection

Brigadier General Charles “Chuck” Elwood Yeager

In my art career spanning over 50 years, I have created 21 paintings for the U.S. Air Force Art History program. One of those paintings represent General Chuck Yeager and another of my uncle Lieutenant Joe Sara.

Brigadier General Chuck Yeager passed away on December 7, 2020 in Los Angeles at age 97.  Born February 13, 1923 and joined the United States Army Air Force in 1941 as a private serving as an aircraft mechanic.  In September 1942 he entered pilot training at Luke Field, Arizona.

My uncle, Lt Joe Sara, at that time, was the youngest graduate from Luke field, giant army air force advanced training base at Phoenix.  Joe Sara, born in Hailey, Idaho on November 15, 1923, was also enlisted in the same pilot training squadron Class 43C graduating on March 10,1943 at Luke Field. Lt. Chuck Yeager was assigned to the 357th Fighter Group at Tonapah, Nevada, and Lt. Joe Sara was assigned to fly the P-38 F model Lightning at Muroc Field, Victorville, CA.  Lt. Sara was killed when the powerful P-38 F model fighter crashed in a formation landing at the Muroc “dry lake” target range on Tuesday, the 13th of April, 1943. He was the youngest lieutenant to be graduated at Luke field and the first fatality from Blaine County in World War II.

Hollywood Park
The End Of An Era

Commemorating The 75 Years Of Hollywood Park Racetrack

Hollywood Race Track was opened on June 10, 1938. Hollywood Park was closed from 1942 to 1944 due to World War II, where it was used as a storage facility for North American Aviation.

In 1949 the grandstand burned down and reopened in 1950. The track was demolished in stages from 2014 until 2016 and is a master planned development for SoFi Stadium, home of the LA Rams and the LA Chargers and a 6,000 seat performance arts venue, the Hollywood Park Casino and the NFL Media building.

The graves of horses buried at the track such as Native Dancer, Lanadalace, Great Communicator and their monuments were moved to other tracks in the area.
